North West Electrification Programme

Vertex Systems Engineering (Vertex) has been awarded a contract from Network Certification Body (NCB) for the provision of support to assess the North West Electrification Programme for compliance against the Technical Standards for Interoperability (TSI’s).

Network Rail is currently delivering over £1bn of rail service improvements to speed up journeys, create rail links and improve stations as part of the Great North Rail Project. As part of this investment, a number of upgrades and electrification of key routes are planned across the North West of England.
The investment will see over 300km of the rail network electrified, improving connections between towns and cities including Manchester, Liverpool, Preston and Blackpool. In conjunction with other improvements on the network, this will enable more trains with additional seats to run.

Vertex’s remit is to undertake a review of standards for compliance against the Energy (ENE) TSI to validate applicability of each clause and limits of authorisation is required by the project.
To enable this, Vertex will review the programme’s design and construction information that will identify any areas where derogations to TSI’s and Notified National technical rules (NNTR’s) could be required.
The assessment will support both NCB and the programme to compile the technical file and subsequent submission to the Notified Body (NoBo) to achieve authorisation from the UK Department for Transport.

Project duration is January 2017 to June 2017.
